This project explores the creation of Rollo, a playful and nostalgic character inspired by cassette tapes. Designed with bold expressions and dynamic motion, Rollo captures the energy of retro culture while maintaining a modern, engaging appeal.
The goal was to create a fun and memorable mascot that could instantly connect with audiences, using a vibrant color palette, exaggerated proportions, and a friendly stance to bring out its personality. Every element, from the character’s gestures to its visual details, was carefully crafted to reflect movement, creativity, and nostalgia.
Designing Rollo was a process of refining depth, movement, and expression. The main challenge was creating layered elements that brought dimension and energy to the character. Early versions felt flat and lacked the vibrancy I aimed for. By adjusting shading, line weight, and composition, I introduced more dynamism. Balancing vintage nostalgia with a modern touch meant exploring textures, color contrasts, and typography. This project reinforced the value of structure in character design and how each detail contributes to a more engaging and expressive result.
